Many scientists believe Newton to be the greatest scientist of all time. Polls conducted among scientists consistently show Newton and Einstein to be at the top two positions on the scale of scientific greatness.

Newton was born in 1642, one year after Galileo’s death, in a small village in Lincolnshire, some thirty miles east of Nottingham. He grew up during the political turmoil of the Civil War of 1642. He was not a good student at school but the signs of intellectual brilliance, especially in mathematical aptitude, were quite evident in his younger years.
